Subject:CORPUS CHRISTI Daily Port Report
Date:Friday, January 19, 2018
Priority:Normal
Notice:Waterway Disruption Request: BIG FOOT Update: Based on present schedules and forecast conditions, the new sail away date is January 23, 2018. Due to the size, deep draft and environmental constraints this date may be adjusted. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

CORPUS CHRISTI SHIP CHANNEL CLOSED DUE TO FOG AT 1740 HRS 19 JANUARY 2018

As per Aransas Corpus Christi Pilots

We have been monitoring an area of shoaling in the vicinity of Beacon 1 in Port Aransas that was created by Hurricane Harvey. The shoal is in the area of stations 100 to 110. A copy of the USACE survey from October is attached. The Pilots have been maneuvering deep draft vessels around this shoal, but it appears to be worsening. This was evidenced by several ships being significantly affected by interaction with the shoal area in the past 2 weeks. The combination of extended periods of Northerly winds and low tides lately have also contributed in making the situation worse.

As a precaution, the Pilots will temporarily limit the maximum draft to 43 feet (salt water) with a positive tide reading. This will be in place until we get a current survey from the USACE with accurate soundings so we can see exactly what depths we are dealing with in that area.

In the mean time, in order to reduce the impact on industry and ships that are already underway to our Port, we will do our best to accommodate the transit of those vessels with a draft over 43 feet around the shoal area under strict conditions that'll include:

1.  A positive tide (amount to be determined by combination of vessel draft and discretion of pilot on watch).
2.  No opposing current in order to minimize the shallow water effects.
3.  A tug escort to assist in maintaining control of the vessel transiting the area. 4. Favorable weather conditions.

Anything else will be instructed to load to a maximum of 43 feet until shoaling is cleared.

Update: Dredge is expected to move to location today or tomorrow. Dredging should take about a week to complete.

.SYNOPSIS FOR THE MIDDLE TEXAS COASTAL WATERS...
Coastal troughing continues to strengthen over the Gulf waters this evening before slowly moving eastward and weakening on Saturday. Strengthening onshore flow and increasing seas over the offshore waters have lead to SCA conditions which is expected through the overnight hours. Scattered to numerous showers along with isolated thunderstorms through Saturday are expected. Patchy to areas of sea fog are expected across the bays and near shore waters late tonight into Saturday morning. Weak to moderate onshore flow will occur Sunday ahead of the next cold front. This front will move through the Middle Texas Coastal Waters Sunday night into Monday morning. This will result in a chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms ahead of the boundary, and a moderate offshore flow in the wake of the front on Monday. The offshore flow will diminish Monday night, as high pressure builds
into Texas. Onshore flow will resume on Tuesday as the high moves east.
